You wake up tomorrow and much like 2008 or 2020, money has collapsed and has no worth, the shelves at the grocery store are empty, all that we give our power over to daily, deteriorates until it no longer functions.
We are experiencing a convergence of crisis on every front all at once: health, economic, environmental, political - that is leading us to bigger and bigger shocks to our systems.
While the way society is designed can no longer sustain itself, let alone the people who depend on it, and/or the environment is exists in, it seems for most of us, there is no way out, no other way to survive.
Also, there is no Plan B if the whole system we depend on comes crashing down.
Or is there?
Florijn de Graaf, founder of SmartHoods, takes us on journey through future proof living. He shares his experience in eco-villages, reporting live from Portugal, one of many stops on his eco tour, to discover new ways to build infrastructure and social structure that puts humans and health of the planet at its core.
We also touch on movements like Earthships, Venus Project and GEN (Global Eco-Village Network).
And dive into:
value based vs. skill-based systems
blueprints of a sustainable community
interconnected vs. separate
local vs. global supply chain
ownership vs. access
food-energy-water nexus
centralized vs. distributed vs. decentralized networks
All leading up to how to be less extractive, hierarchal, and degenerative.
The caveat for our community is - building society starts with our relationships first. And what we are witnessing in eco-villages is that being fully integrated into a sovereign community and knowing your place, and your relationship to everything kills the drive for greed, materialism, fame, ownership, and wealth accumulation.
Best of all we discuss the financial (and human) cost if don’t try something different.
Here’s a hint: turns out it’s very expensive to do nothing (business as usual).
